A great deal of human spiritual searching is inspired by the fact that God and man are always bumping into one another. I think it is fair to say that we have all had our souls briefly stirred by a brush with holiness. We are, however, not content with spiritual one-night stands and so we try to pursue a long-term relationship with Mr. RIGHT. In the past, artists lived comfortably in a world which they knew was created and sustained by a benevolent, creative, and almighty God. They saw evidence of His divine imagination everywhere and couldn’t help but try and capture it in paint, song, and in the written word. Sadly the “acidity of modernism” burned off the spiritual realm and left nothing to replace it but charred neuro-chemicals. Maybe the artistic angst we see so frequently played out on our cultural stage…..
Frequently, the discovery of our spiritual nature is so exciting that we neglect the importance of filling the God void properly. We fail to recognize that the spiritual hole in our lives is a Judeo-Christian God shaped hole that can only be adequately filled by Him.
